This statement is one that is particularly over-stated & very misinformed. It would be possible to provide citations to numerous examples of angry people. We do not want to either repeat these false statements, nor do we want to subject these misinformed people to embarrassment or conflict. However, these people could not be more wrong.
Although the Page’s appellate attorney is working pro-bono, their trial attorney, who has been working with them for more than three years, is not. During the course of the trial, their trial attorney has spent many hundreds of hours in meetings, hearings, writing briefs, etc. Attorneys are extremely expensive. Simple math would show that no amount of GoFundMe or anything else will come close to covering the cost the Pages have incurred by being Lexi’s voice. Additionally there have been costs associated with hiring experts, travel, etc.
And this is also beside the point. The Pages never started a gofundme account. Their supporters did entirely on their own initiative. Unlike those who accuse them, their supporters accurately understand the true financial costs involved. And they have exercised their own freedom in choosing to donate to support a cause that they believe in, that is, Lexi’s individual best interests and personal well-being.
Before this is over, there will very likely be an investigation to follow the money. The Pages will stand the strict scrutiny; will the other parties involved?
